Flandreau Indian School

At Flandreau Indian School, we offer a wide range of student activities to meet the needs and interests of all students. Our programs focus on developing leadership skills, encouraging participation and complementing the education experience. Students can explore various special interest clubs, participate in physical activities, join student government and engage in cultural events. We also provide opportunities for interscholastic and intramural sports.

Activity Planning and Supervision

We create detailed plans for all activities each year, covering academic and sports options, purpose, structure, coordination and fund-raising plans. Professional staff sponsors oversee each activity, and our chief administrator approves the programs. The school board reviews and approves the plan to ensure a balanced and engaging program.

Activities and Events

Students can join a variety of activities, including:

  • Clubs for different interests
  • Religious activities
  • Movies in the auditorium
  • Dances at the Canteen, featuring state-of-the-art equipment
  • Intramural sports for boys, girls and co-ed groups
  • Special holiday parties
  • Contests and competitions
  • Recreational games like cards and pool in the dormitories and the Canteen
  • Off-campus events such as roller-skating, movies, dining out, and attending sports and cultural events
  • On-campus activities like rollerblading, biking, hiking, fishing, golf and softball
  • Cultural activities that celebrate diversity and heritage

Student Involvement and Feedback

We encourage students to participate in activities after school, in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays. We also have a Student Staff Recreational Committee that allows students to share their input on activities they want. We post daily activity schedules in the dorms and academic buildings to keep everyone informed.
