Who We Are
Flandreau Indian School is a public, off-reservation boarding school operated by the Bureau of Indian Education, serving Native American high school students (Grades 9-12) across the United States.
Located in Flandreau, South Dakota, Flandreau Indian School offers Native American youth a quality education.
Our Goal
Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota strives to provide an effective learning environment where students can develop into active, engaged members of their communities.
Our vision includes providing a safe, healthy environment disciplined by adherence to Native American cultural values and practices whenever possible. All staff members are active, lifelong learners, which enables them to work effectively with our students and their tribes, parents and communities.
All of us must work together to prepare students for a productive life in South Dakota and surrounding states.

- Prepare students mentally and physically, ensuring they come to school ready to be active participants in their learning.
- Develop students' character, enabling them to become responsible, productive citizens in the global economy.
- Model lifelong learning to better prepare our students for life in the 21st century.
Strategic Transformation of Education Plan (STEP)
Flandreau Indian School has implemented the Strategic Transformation of Education Plan initiative – a digital learning portal with a blended learning approach. Our students can maximize this opportunity by accessing the digital learning portal with a 1:1 student-laptop usage ratio. This approach gives our students the advantage of integrated applications, and a robust learning strategy.
